Proviso West Holiday Tournament Coordinator Joe Spagnolo continues to find new and innovative ways to prove that Proviso West is "where basketball is best." His latest effort includes the decision to expand the tournament field to 32 teams in 2012, therby doubling the size in comparison with years past.
With that in mind, Spagnolo has announced eight new teams that will join the Proviso West Holiday Tournament field beginning in 2012. They are Downers Grove South, Glenbard East, Maine South, Nazareth Academy, Oswego, St. Charles East, Stevenson and Wheaton Academy. All of the sixteen teams that participated in the 2011 Proviso West Holiday Tournament will be back for the 2012 rendition. The rest of the tournament field will be announced at a later date.
The addition of the eight aforementioned teams also means that there will be some outstanding individual talent that will now be a part of the tournament, including 6'5 2013 shooting guard and Purdue University recruit Kendall Stephens from St. Charles East, 6'11 2015 center Tyler Jackson from Nazareth Academy, 5'11 2015 point guard Jalen Brunson from Stevenson and 6'2 2013 guard Elliot McGaughy from Oswego just to name a few.
Next year's tournament will be played over six days and will feature three days where games will be played simultaneously on two adjacent facilities, where spectators can watch both games for a single admission price. The event will begin on Saturday, December 22, run from December 26-29 and finish on the afternoon of December 31.
