A most reliable source has confirmed that Adonis Filer, a 6'2 2012 combo guard from Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, MA has verbally committed to Clemson University. Filer ended up choosing the Tigers over offers from Utah and Tennessee. He took an official visit to the Clemson campus the weekend of October 22-23.
It was initially thought that Filer would be announcing his decision on November 22. However, with tomorrow being the beginning of the Fall signing period, Filer concluded that there was no longer any need to wait. Simply put, with the style of play incorporated by Tigers head coach Brad Brownell and the opportunity for immediate playing time, Filer sees the Tigers as providing him with a perfect fit.
Filer is a highly athletic guard who at one time was also a star on the gridiron. Since giving up football in order to concentrate on basketball, Filer has come a long way with respect to further developing his game. While we still don't see him as a natural point guard, over the last year he has developed more of a point guard mindset, as he has greatly improved his ball handling and sees the floor especially well. In addition, Filer is quite adept at slashing and consistently getting to the basket.
Filer's high school roots are in Chicago, as he started out at Mt. Carmel before moving to Bishop Noll in Hammond, IN and then ultimately deciding on prep school. He has also competed on the traveling team circuit for the Illinois Wolves and the SYF Players.
Kudos undoubtedly go out to Clemson Associate Head Coach Rick Ray, who was most instrumental in Filer's recruitment. Ray has strong recruiting connections which span not only the Chicago area but the entire state of Illinois and has always done a tremendous job of recruiting that region.
