Brett Bisping, a 6'7 forward from Morton High School in Morton, IL has verbally committed to Siena College. Bisping chose the Saints over offers from Lehigh, SIU-Edwardsville and Cornell. His commitment was confirmed by Illinois Wolves CEO Mike Mullins.
Bisping received a scholarship offer from Siena head coach Mitch Buonaguro two weeks ago and made his decision after taking an official visit to the Loudonville, NY campus last weekend. The opportunity for immediate playing time in the MAAC and the fact that Siena has everything that Bisping is looking for academically proved to be the key factors in his college choice. In addition, Bisping is also impressed with the campus environment and feels a close relationship with the Saints coaching staff.
Bisping was a valuable contributor throughout the past spring and summer playing for the Illinois Wolves 17-Under traveling team squad. We thought that his best performance of the summer came when we watched him at the St. Louis Summer Classic during the third week of the July evaluation period.
Above everything else, Bisping provides Buonaguro and the Saints with a versatile frontcourt player who is capable of playing either the 3 or the 4. While Bisping can score around the basket, we believe that he is at his best when facing up and knocking down shots from mid-range and beyond the 3-point arc. He also has some athleticism, as he elevates well and finishes on the break.
Bisping becomes the fifth member from the Wolves' 2012 class to commit to a D1 program, joining 6'9 center Jay Simpson from La Lumiere Academy in Laporte, IN (Purdue), 5'10 point guard Antonio "Bobo" Drummond from La Lumiere (Southern Illinois), and a pair of Peoria Manual High School products in 6'5 forward Jacoby Roddy (Wright State) and 6'1 combo guard Jeff White (Loyola-Chicago).
